Shopping In Tintern

The following shops are available in Tintern. They are mostly situated on the A466 main road through the village.

The Tintern shops are listed starting at the south end of the village.



CHERRY TREE INN offers a small general shop with newspapers, magazines, alcohol, groceries, fruit and vegetables, confectionery, cigarettes etc. This is now the location of the village Post Office.



TINTERN ABBEY VISITOR CENTRE This is situated at the Abbey and sells gifts and items mostly with a Welsh association.


Tintern Antiques

Tintern Antiques is situated on the main A466 through the village. It contains a wide variety of antiques and is well worth a browse around. Telephone 01291 689705.



LAUREL STORES This is the gift shop close to the Abbey and opposite the Anchor Inn. The store concentrates on Welsh gifts, confectionery and Brooks ice-cream. Welsh lovespoons are a speciality. Generally open seven days a week, 8:30 to late.

THE ITALIAN GARDEN - An Expression of Living Philosophy

Hatti Pegram from the Angiddy Valley is selling and specialising in deliciously different foods imported by the family firm Vallebona, purveyors to Harrods and Fortum and Mason. These are foods not found in the supermarkets. The following items are from the range :

Extra virgin olive oil from Sardinia with a distinctive and unique flavour. Add a little balsamic vinegar, matured in precious wood with a sweet and sour fragrance, for a perfect salad dressing.
Black olives seasoned with herbs in oil.
Cardi Selvatici (wild thistles) in olive oil flavoured with herbs (quite delicious, they have to be tried to be believed)
Wild Thistle Pate, Chillis stuffed with tuna, (georgeous bright red globes almost too good looking to eat).
Crema di Pecorino (cheese spread made from sheep’s milk, perfect as a snack).
Spaghetti Neri (black and exciting made with squid ink)
Spaghetti Peperoncini (with chilli, mild and tasty)
Cooked meats ( eg porchetta flavoured with rosemary, coppa, pancetta, bresaola, salami flavoured with fennel and Sardinian parma-style ham)
Fish (smoked tuna, smoked swordfish)
Many cheeses and fabulous wine.

STELLA BOOKS This shop sells a wide selection of rare and out-of-print books and has recently extended its selling space by opening a further two rooms upstairs. In addition they offer a "book match" facility for that elusive title, a mailing list and full internet service listing all 50,000+ titles. The internet offers full search facilities as well as a secure on-line shopping basket. They also have a selection of antiquarian hand-coloured prints of the local area. Their sister shop, "Roses" is situated in the world-renown, second-hand book mecca of Hay-on-Wye and specializes in Children’s Books and their titles are also included on the Stella Books web site.

TINTERN GARAGE On the river side of the road between the Moon and Sixpence and the Wye Valley Hotel. The garage does not sell fuel but does repair cars, specialising in the Volkswagen / Audi range. There are some general car items for sale at the garage.

PARVA FARM VINEYARD is situated at the northern end of the village on the hill behind the Wye Valley Hotel.
Visitors are welcome for vineyard tours set in a working farm environment with sheep, cattle and ponies.
There is a car park and picnic area, a gift shop selling vine related products, silk flower arrangements and decorations, plants and Welsh Wine.
Fresh flowers can be obtained for weddings, funerals etc.

Due to the steep and sometimes uneven terrain, we strongly recommend appropriate footware.


THE NURTONS NURSERY This is situated opposite the Old Station about 300 metres out of the village to the north. A large range of organic unusual herbaceous perennials and herbs are available.
Open March to October 10:30 - 5:00 except Tuesdays.
