The Tedburn Weekend!

Hi Rob,

You might want to put the following pictures on the website. They are from last Sunday when we had a successful visit down to Tedburn-St-Mary to play our annual challenge match, which has been going on for over 20 years!

In the photo’s you can see myself and wicketkeeper Richard Davies with the Trophy, the team and Richard then looking over-tired!

Cheers,

Steve

My pleasure Steve!

Match Report - 30 July 2006

Tintern vs. Caerphilly Druids, 30 July 2006

Comprehensive Win for Tintern

40 overs match: Caerphilly Druids (49 all out) beat Tintern (53 for 3) by 7 wickets

The Tintern Cricket team bowled and caught exceptionally well to defeat the Caerphilly Druids in their home match last Sunday. Stand-in captain Anthony Hayward won the toss for the second successive week and again elected to ask the opposition to bat first.

Against a hard new ball, on a lively pitch and facing an excellent opening spell from Mark Bailey and James Taylor, the Caerphilly Druids innings started slowly. After 5 overs the score was 15 for 2, D Reese falling to a good catch by wicketkeeper Pip Seabury and P Ashcroft mistiming a cut and allowing Stuart Seabury to take a comfortable catch in the covers. After 10 overs the score had struggled on to 29 for 4 as James Taylor (2 or 18) accounted for G Kellis (14) when he pulled a short ball into the hands of Dave Yeomans, and Mark Bailey clean bowled R Hughes. With the pitch beginning to settle down the match entered into a key phase as Caerphilly attempted to re-trench. Mark Bailey's accuracy and aggression were however undiminished and he was rewarded with two wickets in two deliveries that effectively killed off any hopes that Caerphilly has of setting a challenging target. Mark Bailey's final figures of 4 wickets for 8 runs off 6 overs for once did justice to his performance. The change bowlers then chipped in, Pip Seabury completing his third catch off Anthony Hayward to leave Caerphilly on 40 for 7 wickets off 15 overs. There were no tail-end heroics on this occasion as Stuart Seabury (1 for 14) and Anthony Hayward (3 for 5) mopped up the last wickets and the Caerphilly Druids innings ended on 49 all out.

After an early tea at the Anchor, the first overs were sufficient to kill off any realistic hopes that Caerphilly harboured of forcing of a Tintern collapse. P Ashcroft and G Jones each bowled well but there was no breakthrough until Geraint Reynolds, who played some pleasing strokes to score a quick 18, was caught at slip off W Atkins with the score on 30. Owain Ellis (21 not out), well supported by Stuart Seabury, Dave Yeomans and Huw Ellis, then saw Tintern safely past the target to secure a victory by 7 wickets.

Thanks to Owain Ellis for the match report
